Synaesthetic Synthesis: Simultaneous Perception of Harmonic Opposites

Youngblood has pointed out that cinema is newly defined by every person that creates a film. However that argument loses ground when we, as human beings, are only limited to define what we have access to; in other words, a pool of knowledge and resources available to the human race. In this way, the relationships defined may be new and never before observed. They aren't completely new, but rather a new derivative of what we currently have available to us. The only way something truly new is defined comes with the way of advancements in humanity and technology that would give us deeper insights into our understandings of nature and therefore a new element in the pool from which we can draw new and grander observations.

Interesting thought process, Robert! I guess this all depends upon one's definition of the word "new." My interpretation of the word includes the utilization of what came before - like a composer of new music. "Music" has existed for millennia, but composers, to me, are still composing "new" music (although not really, in the sense of pop music, literally rehashing the same exact template of music). In order to create new music in the sense that you describe it would not mean to create music at all, seeing that music (organized sound) has already been invented or created.

Well then, my definition of 'new' in music with regards to technology has several possibilities. Sythesizers have been around for decades but keep evolving in terms of diversification of sound parameter limits. I think these sounds can in a way influence a composer's thinking and direction composition because of the seemingly limitless sound/timbre possibilities. Call me an optimist but, we as artists and creators need all the inspirational help we can get.
