The Last Chapter

"The purpose of art is 'not to bring order to chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply to wake [us] up to the very life we're living.'"

Art must continue to explore the big questions (love, morality, nature, death, and so forth as mentioned in the book). Technology is now an integral part of life for the Western world and it only seems natural for the performance arts to explore the possibilities of these new technologies. I am actually more excited about the new audiences and performers around the world that technology allows us to reach than I am about how digital media have been incorporated into performance pieces. These connections remind us how small the world has become because of technology which I think makes those big, universal questions even more important to address. We can explore those issues simultaneously with others from around the globe.

The quote led to my thoughts, but my thoughts were not necessarily in response to the quote.
